Description
PES for kids is an open ended software which provides early communication experience, to very young communicatively impaired children, kindergarten children and children of first grade at primary school.
It combines sound, motion, text and image into a learning environment which can be accessed using a switch or a mouse. Its activities include scanning of images/animations (scanning speed can be adjusted) and selecting one image/animation by pressing a button. It includes activities with 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 30 options.
Teachers can edit the existing content or add their own, but they can also change the user interface according to their students’ needs.
PES includes eight main activities:
· Cause & Effect: Click on the image/animation and listen to a recording.
· True or False: Look at an image, listen to a word and decide whether they correspond or not.
· Select one of two options: Look at the two images-text on the screen and click the one you like to listen to a relative sentence.
· Select one of twelve options: Look at the twelve images-text on the screen, listen to the sound and click on the appropriate image.
· Select one of four options: Look at the four images-text on the screen and click the one you like to listen to a relative sentence.
· Select the correct answer: Look at the four images on the screen and find the odd one.
· Build a scene: Press the switch/mouse button to make objects appear on the screen and then say/write a story based on the scene you see or try to remember in which order the items appeared.
· Films: Watch a small film, listen to a small poem and try to repeat.
