“Flip-it: Number frames – Addition” is a card game for practicing addition. It includes 54 cards, which have number frames in both sides.
The cards are in order according to their difficulty. The easy cards just show a number frame in the front side and the child has to count the circles in the frame (example 1). Gradually, the difficulty increases, as the front side of the cards shows additions of two or three number frames (examples 2 & 3). The child has to look at each number frame, count how many circles it includes and try to mentally move the frames in order to find ways to add the frames faster.
The front side of the cards displays number frames with the + sign between them, while the back side of the cards displays the number frames in groups which help the child add them quicker. The child should see the front side of the card, think of ways to solve the equation and then flip the card and compare his way of thinking with the one shown on the card.
